Rear Projection LCD
Rear projection LCD employs the same principal as the direct view LCD TV for its LCD panel. However the panel in the rear projection LCD is quite small and often just called a chip. A bright lamp will pass through the LCD panel through a lens and onto a screen. Rear projection LCD TVs have a very detailed, high-contrast picture and cost much less than direct view LCD and plasma TVs.Pluses
- Rear projection LCD has a sharp display that is very good at contrasts.
- Rear projection LCD TVs are smaller and lighter than CRT.
- Rear projection LCD uses less energy and generates less heat than other display types.
- Magnification of LCD panel can cause "screen door" effect. Image can look as though you're looking through a screen.
- Dead pixels can be an extra nuisance since the rear projection LCD is magnified.
- For a fixed pixel display to equal a CRT running 1080i a resolution of 1920x1080 would be required, and only the most expensive LCD or plasma displays can reach this resolution.
