Seoul Based TV Manufacturer Looks for Repeat Success

LG’s Plasma-DVR combination TVs were enough of a success last year that the Korean firm has decided to see if they can repeat their success. In 2005, the innovative plasma / DVRs made up half of LG’s plasma sales. LG will soon see if lighting strikes twice: they’ve expanded the line and added improvements.

In February, 2006, at the Hilton in Seoul, Korea, LG showcased its line of flat panel LCD and plasma HDTV’s with built in DVR.

Executive Vice President and CEO of LG, Sang Han Yoon, was quoted at the presentation as stating:

"Today's TV viewers already have too many choices in high-resolution widescreen TVs.” However, the apparent saturation of the market has not deterred LG from adding more.

Features

The new line from LG will come in both LCD and Plasma, and will be available in a variety of sizes. LCD will be available in 37”, 42”, and 47” displays, while Plasma will be available in 42” and 50” displays. The DVR’s hard drive capacity was increased to 250GB, which is enough space for 21 hours of HD. This new storage capacity is a significant step up from the 160 Gig models LG demonstrated at CES, 2006. The new DVR models will include all of the important features like advertisement skipping, ultra fast rewind and fast-forward. Although some extras were included LG failed to include 1080P.

One significant new feature will be the 9-in-2 memory card reader, which can read CF/MD/SD/SMC/MMC/MS/MS Pro/MS Pro Duo/xD. This versatile card reader will let you view not only digital photos but MP3s as well. You can even transfer digital media to the TVs hard drive and store music files and images.
