Fixed Pixel


Fixed pixel refers to any display technology that doesn't use scan lines but rather uses pixels in a fixed location like a computer monitor.

HDTV is not a fixed pixel method of display, so high definition formats must be scaled to fit into a fixed pixel display. Most fixed pixel displays do this very well.

A fixed pixel display is particularly good at sharp, high-contrast images but most cannot display 1080i at the proper resolution. This is because the most common maximum resolution for fixed pixel display types is 1024x768 and to properly 1:1 scale a 1080i image the display must be capable of 1920x1080.
