Onkyo Receivers

Onkyo was once a rare brand only seen in expensive hi-fi specialty shops. The name was known for offering some of the best gear available. It still is but, fortunately for home theater enthusiasts on a budget, Onkyo has opened up into mainstream markets. Today, Onkyo receivers have become widely available in a variety of price categories.

In the bottom end, the $300-$500 price range, you might not find a better receiver. Onkyo receiver quality goes up significantly when you add a few hundred to your budget and move into one of Onkyo's THX certified receivers.
Take the Onkyo receiver model TXNR-801 for example. It retails at around $1,000 You get a THX-certified receiver with not only all the home theater capabilities at the entry level of high end but also Onkyo's Net Tune, the ability to connect an RJ-45 right to your receiver and make it part of your home network that includes Internet radio.

Early reviews of Onkyo's internet radio stations weren't so good. Naturally there was a limited number of high resolution audio sources available. But this can only improve with time. Besides, the ability to read MP3's from your PC already make Net-Tune functionality one of the coolest new features on receivers to come along since Surround Sound.
