Speaker Wire


Speaker wire is rated in American Wire Gauge or just a "gauge" number. The lower the gauge rating, the thicker it's conductive material inside. 12 to 16-gauge copper speaker wire is by far the most popular.

Most speaker manufacturers recommend not using anything thinner than 16 gauge. When considering speaker wire assess the distance the wire will need to run. The longer the run of wire, the thicker it should be.

A good rule of thumb is no thinner than:
